With public domain content, you can revise, publish, modify, compile and create new collections or compilations and sell, use and giveaway this material however you see fit. You can even brand yourself as Author with a new title.

This is HUGE…it’s like stealing except that it is legal.

Let’s look at just what “Public Domain” is.

Wikipedia defines “Public Domain” as follows:

“The public domain comprises the body of knowledge and innovation (especially creative works such as writing, art, music, and inventions) in relation to which no person or other legal entity can establish or maintain proprietary interests. This body of information and creativity is considered to be part of the common cultural and intellectual heritage of humanity, which in general anyone may use or exploit.

If an item is not in the public domain, this may be the result of a proprietary interest as represented by a copyright or patent. The extent to which members of the public may use or exploit an item in relation to which proprietary interests exist is generally limited. However, when copyright or patent restrictions expire, works will enter the public domain and may be used by anyone for any purpose.”

Public Domain is the vast body of material that includes books, photos, music and information that is available for the public to use and republish…free.

What that means for you and me is that when the copyright or patent expires on a creative work (book, work of art, etc.), anyone may freely use that work LEGALLY in any manner they choose without the obligation of paying royalties to the creator of the work.

This is HUGE…it’s like stealing except that it is legal.

There are over 85 million books on every conceivable topic know to the human imagination…and that does not include art, movies, photographs, and just about every other type of media imaginable

.All of this is normally protected by copyright laws, but copyright protection is not forever. Intellectual property that is not covered by copyright laws belongs to the public domain.

Therefore, it is open to everyone who wants to use it.

And that can mean serious financial gain for you.

The public domain contains timeless classics, collector paintings, artwork, and even plays, poetry, scripts, as well as works of fictions, true crime novels, mystery and suspense stories and countless other valuable creations that are still not only relevant in today’s society, but in demand.

With public domain content, you can revise, publish, modify, compile and create new collections or compilations and sell, use and giveaway this material however you see fit. You can even brand yourself as Author with a new title.

A work is considered in the public domain if:

1. It was published in the United States prior to 1923.

2. It was published in the United Stated between 1923 and 1978 without a valid copyright notice.

3. It was published in the United States between 1978 and March 1, 1989, without a notice and registration.

4. It was published in the United States between 1923 and 1963 with a copyright notice that was not renewed (remember, only 7% of copyrights issued through 1958 were renewed!)

5. It was published by the United States Government or its Agency from 1779 to 2013

Some works that are now considered public domain :

Most people assume “public domain” is synonymous with “stuff that’s so boring or badly done that no one cares enough about it to buy it.”

The following list proves this is not only an erroneous assumption, but there are actually a number of well-known and highly popular works free for public use.

Books and Publications

Non-fiction/self-help:

How to win friends and influence people, As a Man Thinketh, Acres of Diamond, The Richest Man in Babylon, Kamasutra by Vatsyayana, How to Live on 24 Hours a Day by Arnold Bennett , The Book of Good Manners; a Guide to Polite Usage for All Social, A Short History of the World by H. G. Wells, Anatomy of the Human Body by Henry Gray, etc

Literature:

Peter Pan (the play) and Peter and Wendy (the book), by James M.,The Iliad, The Odyssey and other epic poetry by Homer , The collective works of Shakespeare, The War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Dracula by Bram Stoker, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, Wuthering Heights Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte , Aesop’s Fables by Aesop, etc

Government publications:

Once you have found some public domain works that interest you, you’re ready to prepare them for resale. Depending on how much you want to put into the project, you can either copy the work directly and resell them, or create your own version or spin (which you can then copyright protect so no one else can sell your modified work).

How to Get Public Domain Works

Google google google and search for directories of public domain works….

A spent a few hours of google for public domain books, this what I came across:
